HP MFPs and RightFax

Just before the Global Fax Summit, I drove over to Amstelveen in the Netherlands where I live to visit with HP at their offices. My purpose was to collect footage of a person using an HP MFP to send a fax. What with GFS, getting sick, and other projects, I only just recently had a chance to edit it down to a nice video. So here it is.
What you’ll see in this video is a simple scenario of walking up to the MFP, scanning in a document, and pressing send. Regardless of whether I have a single MFP or hundreds, configuration in RightFax is incredibly simple and the EDC Monitor allows the admin to watch the entire process of sending the fax.
When the user walks up to the MFP, they can be logged in automatically as a generic “WALKUP” user, enter in their credentials using the number pad or touchscreen, or use the SafeCom system which requires them to simply swipe their access card. SafeCom makes the process of sending a fax even easier than before. Its pretty cool.
Watch the video and let me know what you think of it here in the comments.

I’m trying to set up several HP MFPs for outbound faxing using the EDC. I can’t get notifications to print the fax status back to the MFP once the fax is sent/fails. OpenText said the HP MFP does not provide the right information when sending the fax. So I’d love to know how to get notifications sent to the originating device.
Hi Kris,
There is an area of the MFP module where you can provide an IP address of the MFP. Have you done that? From the server running RightFax, can you ping the MFP IP address? Also, did you enable print notifications?
If I hard code the IP of one MFP into the EDC then all the notifications will go to that MFP. I have to configure three MFPs for outbound faxing. I need the notifications to go to the originating MFP. So I need the EDC to pull the ip from the hpf file that accompanies the image file. I was hoping I could have different names for my MFP devices and assign different default users to each. Unfortunately, the EDC assigns the same name to each of my devices.
I’m going back to the security folks to check the communication between the printers and the RightFax server.
Kris – are you relaying emails through an exchange server to SMTP? I’m facing a similar issue and OpenText just today told me there is no way to fix this issue without putting in a feature request. Looking for other possibilities at the moment.
